IIGM promoting automated sewing technology in India

skIndia Industrial Garment Machines (IIGM) representing an assortment of top apparel machine manufacturers of the world in India, has introduced an automated sewing machines with robotics and artificial intelligence. IIGM has emerged from being a mere trading company to a technology partner to many companies in India.

“We are the representatives and partners of Keilmann Sondermaschinenbau GmbH (KSL). They make automated sewing technology using robotics and artificial intelligence and are the only ones using artificial intelligence-based sewing technology in the world. We also represent Holland’s Global Sew, a high-tech sewing machine manufacturer for heavy duty applications. These can stitch up to 20 millimeters of thickness. Tough fabrics that need to be sewn together can be sewn using Global sewing machines,” says  Sajith Kumar, VP CAD/CAM & Automation, IIGM.

Kumar says the sewing industry in India is vast and divided into various areas. In the apparel sector, the company represents global leaders like Juki, Amato and other brands. “We sell 60,000 sewing machines a year in the apparel sector. Every customer’s demand is different. With the help of Global and KSL from Germany, we are able to design machines and also solve customers’ bottlenecks. All these are special purpose machines,” explains Kumar.

KSL is based out of Germany. It caters to automotive, home textile, aerospace, special applications, filtration. Currently IIGM is promoting 3D-Robot Sewing Unit KL 500, a sewing machine by KSL used for stitching a dashboard in automobile industry. Kumar says earlier sewing machines in India used to be clutch motors. Now manufacturers are turning to power saving or green machines. They are getting into direct drive technology, which reduces transmission losses. There are special kinds of power saving motors available in India. Automated sewing machines are the way forward in apparel technology. “With robotics and artificial intelligence, sewing machines have come a long way. The garment industry is trying to reduce its dependence on labour intensive processes. Hence we have seen a big demand for automated sewing machines in India,” Kumar sums up.
