The three-day India International Fabric Expo-2013 held at Colombo saw international buyers appreciating Surat fabrics, including saris and dress materials. This was the first time that the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) had set up a separate pavilion named 'Discover Surat', to display textile fabrics and designs from the city, including embroidery. Around 22 textile exhibitors from the city had participated in the show with their exquisite designer saris and dress materials. They received many enquiries from the fashion designers, garment wholesalers and retailers in Sri Lanka.
According to SGCCIoffice-bearers,the objective of participating in the expo was to exhibit various ranges of powerloom textile fabrics manufactured in the country's biggest man-made fabric (MMF) industry to Sri Lankan garment manufacturers and domestic buyers and buying agencies. They wanted to explore the possibility of joint ventures in manufacturing and marketing and to create long-term prospective business relationship by promoting 'Surat Brand'. Kamlesh Yagnik, President, SGCCI, told media, "Our textile fabrics have received an overwhelming response from international buyers as well as wholesalers, retailers and fashion designers from Sri Lanka."
The India International Fabric Expo-2013 was organized by Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) in Colombo to leverage the Sri Lankan market for enhancing export opportunities for the small and medium enterprises (SME) in powerloom industry, traders and exporters.
