Indore is all set to get its proposed textile park after textile minister K S Rao announced a total investment of Rs 4,000 crores for it. The minister also promised that the project would get a central assistance of Rs 40 crores. Welcoming the plan for proposed textile park, MP Textiles Mill Association (MPTMA) chairman S Pal said, "Skill development of the workforce associated with the industry in the state must be accorded top priority. I'm happy that the centre has agreed to our demand of providing a sum of Rs 5,000 per month per textile worker for skill upgradation, which will be done within the mill premises itself."
The key role for the construction of proposed park will be played by the Textile Association of India (TAI). The president of TAI (MP unit), N S Nirban said, "We had made efforts for the park three to four times in past, but to no avail, as the entrepreneurs didn't come forward. However, now we can see a ray of hope."
Vice-chairman of SVITS, which is the sole institute in the state to have a separate textile engineering department, Manohar Baheti, said, "Textile park is the need of the hour, but it is possible only when a proper policy was framed by the government".
