ATDC launches new course on industrial sewing

The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), has launched a new course on Industrial Sewing Machine Operation (ISMO). The duration of the course is 45 days. The focus of the program is on performing and not on merely knowing. Lecturing is restricted to the bare minimum and emphasis is given to hands-on training. A trainer handbook and trainee handbook have been developed to provide standard courses, detailed contents and practical exercises to monitor improvement in the efficiency level achieved and right evaluation methods.

The Apparel Training and Design Centre is India’s largest vocational training provider for the apparel industry. This course is open to students who have completed class V. It is best suited for an entry level job in apparel manufacturing where students can earn at least Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 as the starting monthly salary. The ISMO has been developed on the basis of what the apparel industry expects from an operator from the point of view of maximum needle time and minimum handling time, to increase productivity and efficiency.

In addition to domain specific knowledge, an effort will be made to strengthen the soft skills of students. The aim is to make them understand their roles and responsibilities towards quality garments and to learn the process sequence and operations of a basic garment. Apart from that students will be given training in soft skills, thrift management, health and hygiene and team work management.
